Wood comes to the city

The use of the renewable building material wood was a key issue right from the start of the planning for the extension building of the Austrian Health Insurance Fund. From a static point of view, implementation in timber construction offered the best prerequisites for dealing with the difficult ground conditions including the maintenance of an existing underground car park.

“What was unthinkable a few years ago has now found its way into the city and state of Salzburg with this flagship project with modern timber construction. The high-tech material wood shows its advantages: low dead weight and high load-bearing capacity as well as high construction and interior quality. The building in the center of the city should serve as a model for many other wooden structures, ”said Deputy Guild Master Erich Wolf.

Under the architectural leadership of the renowned Salzburg architects kofler architects, the 9-storey wooden hybrid building was planned in close coordination with the Salzburg design advisory board, while the construction company Swietelsky / Siewtimber took over the construction.

Aiming high: wooden tower as an ambassador for large-volume timber construction

“It is a special day on which the wooden tower of the Austrian Health Insurance Fund opens its doors, because it shows the way into the future. With the regional building material wood, the step into a more sustainable building and living succeeds, in dimensions that go far beyond the traditional wooden house. This roll of honor is awarded once a year by proHolz Salzburg on behalf of the Salzburg forest and timber industry to exemplary wooden buildings.
